To be fair to the print writers who would sell a slightly changed article to a different market, they often were paid so little for the first article that “spinning” it into different articles helped them make ends meet instead of having to research something from scratch each time. It was considered fair if they sold similar articles to different markets and didn’t sell them to competing magazines.
I don’t have any idea how the online market of today works, though.
