The trip past the salt ponds and through Albrae can be particularly beautiful.

One thing that struck me was how nice the lounges on these trains are (no revenue seating anywhere in the car, not sure what was downstairs) and what a waste given everybody went to the car, got their food from the cafe, and took it back to their seat, or in most cases the tables in the coach cars.

Seems to me it would make more sense to put Surfliner Cafe/Coaches on these trains with the little lounge tables downstairs and seating upstairs and send these roomier Capitol lounges to trains like the CONO and routes that really need more lounge space.

No, Please! Don't give our Trains away. They're all done up nice in California Blue-and-Gold, and each one bears the name of a beloved California landmark.

This would be like giving the Acela equipment away to run on the Kansas City to St. Louis line on the grounds that "New Yorkers didn't appreciate them enough".

We DO promise to Appreciate them, Honestly! Just give us a little more time...

Speaking for All Californians.

Downstairs is where the conductors sit and do thier paperwork when they're not walking the train. Those are the 8xxx cafe cars.

Actually, there are a couple of Superliner cafe coaches running on the Northern Caliofrnia services. One of them is even painted in Amtrak California paint. The 6xxx series cafe cars also are all seating on top with the cafe on the lower level with no seating.

The Capitol lounges can't be used by the CONO because AMTRAK DOESN'T OWN THEM. They are the property of the California Department Of Transportation and are operated by Amtrak and under the Amtrak brand name. Amtrak could no more stick these on the CONO then they could put Piedmont coaches on a Regional.

Kevin Standlee (one of my friends in Fandom) is from California and raves about the Capitol Corridor trains. He takes that train at least once a month or every other month out to the Sacramento area.

I think these are the 180 corridor cars that they are talking about building with the new funding. I wonder how many coridors could be served by that number of cars.

Almost 2.65 Million Californians appreciated those cars last year, when they set foot on them.
Or was it one Californian riding 2.65 million times? Oh, that's right. Chuljin rides the Surfliner.

That was a good one. LOL
Yes, even I laughed loudly, reading that on my phone, in an inappropriate place. :)

Welcome to CA! Yes, I quite like the Northern CA cars (as used on the SJ and CC) better than the PS ones here. The cafe seems better designed (from a welcomingness point of view), and even like the coaches better in most ways (even more than PS BC)...especially the 'corner seats behind the glass'. :)

We got those because we paid for them. :) Well...the northies got them because we paid for them. *grumble*. Quite the opposite of what you said, I wish we'd get something similar down here.

You just try to remove them from CA. We'll find you. :p

Aloha

An inappropriate place to read? Laughter is good anyplace, but maybe not anytime.
