Yeah honestly for once the temporary experience was better than the normal experience, I wonder what the new lounge will look like.

I’m out of Chicago on the Cardinal tomorrow. I was planning on checking out of my hotel, and either checking my bags at the Metro lounge and going to Lou Mitchell’s or if needed vice versa, and then the art institute. I know there are Threads on this from years ago but couldn’t find a recent one. Is this still possible? Is there a better idea? I have three bags- two rollers and a briefcase

Yep, the Luggage Room @ the Metro Lounge is by the Check in Desk.

It is not staffed like the one in the old Lounge, but should be perfectly Safe to leave your stuff in during the wait for your Train.

You should take any Valuables with you such as Laptop,Phone,Travel Doccumemts etc. ( perhaps in the Briefcase?)

Yep, the Luggage Room @ the Metro Lounge is by the Check in Desk.

It is not staffed like the one in the old Lounge, but should be perfectly Safe to leave your stuff in during the wait for your Train.

The only thing vaguely valuable in the whole thing is my Fiio music player; my tablet is something like 6-7 years old.

When you’re in the lounge, try the upstairs if it’s open again. Less crowded, and there’s an elevator to get to it, plus restrooms that also are not as crowded.

As an aside, when you go to the Art Institute, make sure to go to the area with the miniature rooms. 68 small (scale: one inch to one foot) and intricately detailed interiors from different time periods.

It is however right next to the check in desk. I've left stuff in there for hours and didn't have an issue.

I can 100% agree with this! Even has a street view.

The Boston Metro Lounge is decorated with about 20 huge photos of the history of Boston trains and the South Station. Dates range from 1900 to about 1970 (very early Amtrak). A really great one of the Boston signal control tower in full operation.

Although I love the Philly lounge because it’s the one I’m most familiar with, BOS is my favorite for furniture that provides a relaxing, soothing atmosphere. I like traditional, comfortable furniture that is not “trendy” or “edgy” — I hope they don’t change it.

The one time I was in there, the desk attendant was pleasant and very helpful, just as they are at PHL.

Although I love the Philly lounge

It’s my favorite because it’s usually not extremely crowded and I like how it overlooks the historic station and has private elevators to the tracks. I feel like a railroad executive!

The downside is they no longer offer luggage storage

The few times I was in this really nice Lounge, the Attendant wasn't particularly helpful or pleasant, (Disclaimer: its been 5 years since I was @ South Station.)

And the Luggage situation makes no sense, wonder why they stopped holding your Bags in the Lounge?

That’s a nice ceiling! I never noticed it when I was there. But I’m very short, so it was probably about the right distance away for me.

I've only had very nice agents in Boston. The last time they encouraged me to load up on snacks for the trip. The old photographs are so wonderful that I'm sure some bureaucrat will replace them.

Staff were great. I was sleeper from Albany to Chicago but they helped me book sleeper from Boston to Albany which it turned which it turned out I have plenty of points for. Staff on the train is great also!

When does the lounge in Portland open for the day? Amtrak has it from 9:30 am - 5:40 pm daily but I noticed that Google maps say 7:15 am - 8 pm and it was updated recently.

Heads up, Amtrak just completed the remodel at the WAS Station lounge and it looks which some improvement but they need to spice up it little more by provide better food/snacks, perhaps? Bear in mind, these photos was provided by Amtrak.

Heads up! It wasn’t a remodel, it was a refresh and it was completed in 10 days and it has been 2 months since the refresh.

I posted pics a day or two after they reopened it.

No coffee when I was there 2 weeks ago. The coffee machine was out of order. Amtrak seems to have a hard time keeping coffee machines working.
