There was a ghastly trespasser hit, a possible suicide according to some, on the NEC yesterday, near Odenton. Apparently the deceased jumped in front of an Amtrak train and landed up atop the train destroying the pantograph and damaging catenary. Service was suspended for a couple of hours. There were multiple posts about it on Facebook and Twitter.

Just saw this on a local news channel:
OTERO COUNTY — A driver was cited after their Jeep collided with an Amtrak train in southeastern Colorado Sunday morning. The Colorado State Patrol says this happened just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Otero County Road 36, which is east of La Junta.

No injuries after Jeep, Amtrak train collide

From the location and timing, that looks like train 3 going into La Junta.

It looks like the train probably lost another hour right there though, for the investigation and all. However, #3 was already running late, so the 7 a.m. time is confusing. Reportorial error --- or not Amtrak at all?

This person tried to beat a fast train in Ohio and lost and got killed. Here is a video (i take no credit for this video)



At the end, He shows same engine saying the diner derailed when the plow hit a crossing and got under the train and derailed the cafe/diner car.

I don't see any news about the derailment though.

Train 91 collided with a vehicle in Jacksonville, FL 12/20/23

An AU member (and FB friend of mine) is on the train.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was sent to a local hospital in serious condition after colliding with an Amtrak train in the Dinsmore area of Jacksonville Wednesday morning, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Police said the Amtrak train was traveling southbound on Dunn Avenue when the driver of a Kia driving eastbound approached the rail crossing with the arms deployed and drove around them.

Eastbound CZ 6(28) involved in serious accident east of Denver

Don’t have info to share at this time but the tracker shows it happened between Denver & Fort Morgan.
5(29) terminated at Lincoln NE
6(29) will terminate at Denver tonight
 
It's hard to believe how this stuff keeps happening, but a milk truck and a the CZ collided here in Colorado on the eastern plains. No one was seriously injured. I was going to be heading to Glenwood Springs today. Amtrak wanted to give a voucher. No thanks!

They are holding trains in Lincoln.

I wonder how Amtrak handles this with the passengers. This has to be really disruptive for all. They have to get them from a remote location and take them somewhere else. How does this work?

I assume suing the milk truck company is a done deal.

This accident occurred just east of Keenesburg, which is on the northeast edge of the Denver metro area. East of there, cell signals become intermittent. In the video and on the map it looks more remote than it is.

Another one of those acute angle grade crossings. If the double bottom was northbound another repeat of the other SWC derailment. It is time to at least get reflectors on the cross bucks so a train's headlights blink on the reflectors.
