Do you have a connection on the same rez as the LSL? If so, Amtrak will take care of you.

Try either the Comfort Inn or Quality Inn in Floral Park NY! Both advertising rates at under 100 dollars a night and in a centrally located area at the NYC nassau county border! Half hour rude from Penn Station on the LIRR!

If you don't mind spending some bucks, I recommend the Kimpton Eventi at 6th Ave. and 30th St. Also, if you have a smartphone, download Hotel Tonight. I have used it once.

The Windham Hotel @ 481 Eighth Avenue is on a Flash Sale for $97 tonight. on Hotels.com. 1/10th of a mile from Penn Station! I'd book this ASAP if you want a Hotel tonight!
2)Fairfield Inn and Suites( Marriott)/Times Square/ $109 online/ .4 mile from Penn Station

Third choice: Hotel Pennsylvania across from Penn Station. Old and small rooms, but great access.

Thanks everybody. No, unfortunately I don't have a guaranteed connection. Pennsylvania Hotel looks like what I'll do. Across the street I can walk to and it's just one night. All I want to do is sleep. Don't need anything fancy. THANKS AGAIN everyone!!! Very much appreciated.......

Let us know how the Pennsylvania does by you. It gets lousy reviews, but is certainly convenient. I last stayed there in 1977 to board the National Limited to Flagstaff via the through sleeper through Kansas City ! I thought the rate of $36 was outrageous !

The Pennsylvania is a pit. That is a great deal for the Wyndham New Yorker, I'd grab that. Another choice is the La Quinta Manhattan a block and a half east of the station at 17 W. 32nd. I have stayed there 3 times now, and it is usually about the cheapest you can get for a decent room with a private bath in Manhattan. About the same price level as the Pennsylvania and the rooms are much nicer.

Also, the Wyndham is much closer to the Amtrak (8th Ave) side of the station. You basically go up the escalator toward 33rd St from the Amtrak area and it is diagonally across the street. The Pennsylvania is on the 7th Ave side.

There's a Homewood Suites on 37th between 8th and 9th Avenues. Just 3 blocks from Penn Station. Nice big rooms with full kitchens. I'm staying there this Saturday for my train trip, provided this big winter storm doesn't materialize!!

On a recent trip to NYC, I visited the Hotel Pennsylvania...to look about. During my history adventure, I discovered a busy lobby, but the clientele ran the gamete from adventurous to those of lesser means. A woman with a British accent was complaining of bug bites. If it was a haven of last resort, I would ask to if I could see the various rooms types and verify if indeed the place fit my needs and sanitation expectations. I am not saying it is bad. I am just saying what I saw didn't inspire confidence.

I remember one person saying if you throw a Dead Cat in the front door of the Pennsylvania, it will come back alive and run out the back door fast as possible :)
