Auto Train Amfleets?

I noticed last week while riding past the Lorton Auto Train Terminal, a string of Amfleet 2 coaches just sitting among the auto rack equipment. Is there a reason why a bunch of single level Amfleet equipment would be sitting at the Auto Train terminal?

I noticed last week while riding past the Lorton Auto Train Terminal, a string of Amfleet 2 coaches just sitting among the auto rack equipment. Is there a reason why a bunch of single level Amfleet equipment would be sitting at the Auto Train terminal?

Storage track space. Most likely they are awaiting some level of periodic maintenance before being put back in service.

Back in the David Gunn days when there was severe shortage of funding there were literally many dozens of Amfleets parked at Wilmington shops awaiting periodic maintenance.

A somewhat similar situation arose during the funding shortfall through the pandemic which is now slowly being unwound as money comes on line and enough experienced people can be brought back into circulation.
