Automobile parking at Kansas City Union Station

We are taking the Southwest Chief from Kansas City to Winslow next month and need a place to park our car. It appears that there is long term parking at the West Yards garage next to Union Station. I called and talked to a lady with the parking venders office and was told we couldn't reserve a parking space, first come first serve. Does anyone have any experience with the West Yards parking? Hate to drive 300 miles and find we can't find a parking space.

I have zero experience parking there, unfortunately. However I would note that there are a number of hotels attached to Union Station via a (rather long) enclosed skywalk linking Union Station and the Crown Center complex. Those hotel garages might be a reasonable backup option if you find the West Yards garage completely filled.
