If they had quad-tracked in the 20's or 30's, 2 of those tracks probably would have been ripped out in the 50's or 60's.just 100 years after SP was going to. SP why couldn't you have finished quad tracking, grade separation and electrification back in the 20s or 30s so we didn't need to worry about it now.
unlikely, HQ watched over the line which is why it kept steam for so long. the line held ridership pretty well till the late 60s as more and more freeways were done. it maybe would have happened in the 70s given SPs losses but that would have required CPUC to sign off which seems unlikely. By that point the state was already looking to buy it.If they had quad-tracked in the 20's or 30's, 2 of those tracks probably would have been ripped out in the 50's or 60's.
An SP friend who worked as an engineer in the Oregon Division office told me that they had aging rolls of drawings of line improvements that had been set aside in the 1930's. That fits with the same thing for the Peninsula.unlikely, HQ watched over the line which is why it kept steam for so long. the line held ridership pretty well till the late 60s as more and more freeways were done. it maybe would have happened in the 70s given SPs losses but that would have required CPUC to sign off which seems unlikely.
