You're lucky it's that big. The last time I saw it, the train had 1 engine, 1 coach, 1 diner and 1 sleeper!

I've seen bigger engine movements!

And that’s why Amtrak can charge over $600 for a roomette for one person from Chicago to DC and people will actually pay that outrageous fare!

You got lucky there @Sidney. Looking at the Capitol Limited that just left Chicago today (9/3/23), it had the two locomotives, the baggage car, and three superliners (coach, diner, and sleeper).

They probably added that extra car there on yours in preparation for the long weekend.

Either that or they might have added to accommodate for missed connections from some other train

I am scheduled on tonight's Capitol Limited out of Pittsburgh to Chicago. I note that today's eastbound is significantly delayed and will arrive in Washington about 2 hours late. I presume that equipment is not same day turned? I hope not as that would likely mean a significant delay departing DC.

That is correct. Equipment turns same day at CHI, but not WAS. Even if it were on time, 3 hours would be a remarkable turnaround for a long haul train.

From what I've been seeing from railcams, today's (9/20) #29 into Chicago has a special engine (#301) leading, so maybe it will be on its return back to DC.
