Evidently Hannibal, MO officials are pushing to have Amtrak's Chicago-Quincy trains (Carl Sandburg and Illinois Zephyr) extended from Quincy, IL to Hannibal, MO. This would, presumably, require support from the State of Missouri (for track and station improvements/contruction).

Anyone know if the trains still cross from Quincy, IL to West Quincy, MO to layover (as I believe they once did)?

The train sets do layover in the West Quincy BNSF yard right about where the old station used to be. The flood of 93 destroyed the station and the Amtrak stop along with it.

Without a doubt West Quincy had the smallest population of any destination in the whole Amtrak system, if you can call a collection of gas stations, pawn shops, used car dealers, a factory, and one or two houses a destination.

Every once in a while around here you will hear reference to the Mark Twain Zephyr which ran from St. Louis to Burlington via Hannibal.
