Speaking of this, NICTD finally did temporarily close the 11th and Franklin(and also it's near Pine) South Shore station in downtown Michigan City on May 1st, 2021, for the next 21/2 years to construct a high level platform. They also are turning 11th Street into a one way eastbound street, and ending the street running that station(and this portion of the tracks in Michigan City) was famous for. :( South Shore 11th Street station to close for Double Track project

The Carroll Ave. station in eastern Michigan City, will still be open during this time. And bus route #1 of Michigan City's The Wave bus system, does stop a few blocks north of the Carroll Ave station: https://www.emichigancity.com/DocumentCenter/View/1322/MC-Transit-route-1?bidId=

I’ll be in Chicago in September, will I be able to experience the street running?
Yeah, you just won't be able to board or disembark at a street-level station anymore. Street running will be going on for quite a while as they construct the double tracking along 10th and 11th.
