At least it's not an active station anymore, but it's a historic landmark, which is sad. Classic Florida.

Why and when did Amtrak move to the present Delray Beach location? The old station looked in good repair before the fire and was a classic Seaboard one.
Amtrak stopped using the old station in 1995. The new Delray Beach station was built in 1991 because of contract dispute between Trirail and the owner of the old station. It has sat empty since 1995. Getting to the depot was kind of a roundabout way once you exited 95. For some reason they never built an access road to the station at W Atlantic Ave. You had to drive up North Congress onto Lake Ida and then wind your all the way down to the end of Depot Ave. Because of its remote location no one ever took an interest in putting in a business or restaurant at the old depot.

According to a police report, the four teens skipped school. While at the train station on 80 Depot Ave., one of the suspects lit a bag on fire in one of the rooms.

The teens confessed to police that when the fire got out of control, they ran.

The massive fire burned for several hours, even injuring a firefighter who suffered burns to his neck and ears after being knocked down by the force of the fire.

All four teens appeared before a judge Wednesday.
