Hey all, long time no train, going on the Cresent for the first time on an uprcoming trip and wanted to know if I should expect dinner out of WAS with that 6:30 departure time. My friend and I are going sleeper, so we will board out of the Club and wondered if they might take reservations there before we board.

Whatever siding I'm sitting on!
They most likely will (in fact absolutely will), but your SCA should have made your reservations for you before you board. (S)he will tell you that you have a 7:15 ( or whatever) dinner reservation. If not, ask her or him about it.

Excellent. Would anybody recommend that crab cake thing I saw on the breakfast menu?
Yes. It's quite good, actually. Not up to what you might get in Baltimore, but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it tasted.

Guess I'll have the crabcake for breakfast on the CL, now I'm curious. I saw that they had real plates on the CL too, which diners is 19 running with these days?

8400 has pretty much been staying on the LSL recently, so you should get a Heritage Diner on the Crescent. How rebuilt that diner is, there's no telling.

We had plastic plates on 30(20). I recall having "china" on 29 in Nov 2011.

Most Heritage Diners have been rebuilt, but the one I got on one of the Silvers 2 weeks ago had to be one of the relics from the museum! It even had the old heavy doors that took 3 people to push open!

You got plastic, because it was the "party train" and Amtrak can't afford all the broken plates! :D You have to have "connections" to get the real stuff. When I took 30(27), I had the real thing. (I won't mention the caviar! :giggle: )

Of the 20 remaining Heritage diners on Amtrak's active roster, 10 have the Timoinsa rebuild which includes automatic doors. So you pretty much have a 50/50 chance of getting an old dining car with the old heavy doors.
