This forum post remined me of one of my favorite cross-country in my 70+ year of riding cross-county on the trains. It was LAX-NOL-NYP with no change of trains. Does anyone else remember this? The Sunset carried the sleeper LAX-NOL; sleeper layover in NOL overnight using the sleeper as your "hotel"; and then the Crescent carried to sleeper on to NYP. Admittedly this was back about 1974-1975-or 1976. Great trip.
I ve ridden from LAX to NYP on the Sunset and Crescent and due to the late arrival of the Sunset into NOL and the early departure of the Crescent,to get a hotel for that short period of time was not worth it. Years ago I just spent the night in the station.
I did several such trip during last year’s covid. I also did NYC-CHI-PDX-LAX-TUC, NYC-WAS-CHI-STL-DFW-LAX. Of all the route I did, CHI-DEN-SFO is my favorite
