From Amtrak Alerts: "Empire Builder Train 8 scheduled to depart Seattle (SEA) on 2/23 is canceled due to debris blocking the tracks east of Shelby (SBY). Alternate transportation will be provided between SEA and Spokane (SPK)"
Anyone have more information? I was booked on Train 8 today....got rebooked for next train (Feb 25), but trying to figure out what the probably is that Train 8 of Feb 25 will actually run.
Thanks! --Fritz

There was an avalanche on the High Line in Montana. I have no idea how bad it was and if the line is back open yet. I think it is but don't quote me.

The other option would have been to detour the train via the Montana Rail Link and BNSF EX Northern Pacific Line from Sandpoint to Fargo

Also whoever wrote the tweet messed up. It says it's blocked EAST of Shelby, yet the Westbound train is terminating in Shelby?

OK thanks, avalanche would make more sense, but agreed, only well west of Shelby. Hope it is indeed cleared....can take awhile if there was track damage. High wind warnings in that area today also....so would likley have been wind holds around E. Glacier anyway. Would appreciate more info if anybody's got any....hoping we actually get to go on Thursday -Fritz

There's been a freight stopped in front of the Izaak Walton Inn at Essex, at least the last hour since I started looking at the live webcam:
I guess when that starts moving it will be a clue. Sure would appreciate any other info about what is going on in that area if anybody's got anything.

The live cam is just a picture for me, is there a stream or something?

The Izaak Walton "live" cam looks like a series of occasional, time-stamped snapshots, not true live stream. Not sure of the update frequency but appears to be at least several an hour. No freight train visible there anymore this morning, so hopefully trains are moving through Marias Pass again!
