My Amtrak experience is almost all on the east coast, where Amtrak trains run on CSX tracks.(plus some other freight tracks?)

The amounts paid by Amtrak to specific host railroads are held in confidence by Amtrak and the railroads. On an aggregate basis, Amtrak was paying roughly $140M to host railroads as of several years ago.

I have gathered from various Amtrak reports and studies that they pay around $5 a train mile as a ball park number. What they pay each individual railroad is contracted out and is a closely held secret by both parties apparently.
