5(9) arrived EMY 8.5 hours late yesterday, which is likely the major reason that today's eastbound CZ left EMY more than 6 hours late this afternoon at 3:15 PM -- scheduled departure time is 9:10 AM. There are several hours of padding in the schedule, but certainly not enough to make an on-time arrival into Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

Sorry to say the time train 5 made up in padding (about an hour or so) between RSV and SAC, it lost again between MTZ and RIC (EMY) due to track work. The Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin's have additional padding built in at their final stops to account for the 30min-1hour night time delay between MTZ and RIC, with the last Capitol Corridor trains being replaced by buses, however train 5 has added a train to the mix that isn't normally there so it seems like it is getting bumped to the bottom of the totem pole. Train 14 also does not have cushion, however it is anticipated to make up the time by KFS the next morning.

Basically if train 5 arrives to Martinez after 8pm or so (this is a ball park time) it most likely will be delayed up to another hour by the track work between MTZ and RIC. This then affects train 6 as indicated above the next morning, unfortunately.

On the 11th it left CHI 3 hrs late and lost another 3 hrs before DEN

The train mentioned by the OP has made up 1 hr, 15 minutes since yesterday. No, it still won't make up enough time for an On Time

arrival into Chicago (and may in fact lose that time again further down the line). But for now, the "late trains get later" adage isn't

holding true.
