During October we visited Mattoon, IL, my wife's parents home town. Here are some shots of the 1918-built Illinois Central RR depot now serving Amtrak's City of New Orleans, Illini and Saluki trains. We traveled there from Los Angeles on Amtrak via New Orleans and Chicago.

Great photo's of a most impressive station, that most of us pass thru, without ever seeing.   Loved that shot of the IC centennial medallions...I have a large and a small one in my collection.

Too bad the Big Four station wasn't also preserved....

The CONO passes through there in the early morning hours (darkness)...flag stop. The Illini and Saluki (Carbondale to Chicago) trains call there during daylight.

Yea, the New York Central ROW is now the Lincoln Prairie Grass Trail.
