Did anyone go to this meeting? Alex Kummant was the keynote speaker. What did he talk about? Did the Sunset issue get brought up? Thank you.
Emmett Fremaux is from New Orleans; I got the impression service to and from there is not far from his mind. I think if he had the time, our group would have gotten some other answers out of him, but he was pressed for time, and he did put a great deal of information out in a hurry.Thank you for the info Sam. But I don't really see how that would make sense; wouldn't you need an extra set of equipment compared to extending the Sunset back? Also, did he say what other options are being explored? Could extending the Sunset back be one? When will there be an announcement? Thank you.
None that I know of. Two changes are already in place: Some traffic divereted onto the Ex T&P between Sierra Blanca TX and Ft. Worth, and between Houston and Beaumont use of the ex MoPac in one direaction and the ex SP track in the other direction to function as double track. UP freight traffic may be continuing in a similar fashion between Beaumont TX and Kinder LA, leaving only the BNSF trains as the main traffic between Iowa Jct. LA and Avondale LA. (Iowa Jct is about 10 miles east of Lake Charles LA and Avodale is the junction at the west end of the Huey P. Long Bridge over the Mississippi River. Whatever improvements in congestion that you can get through these methods has been in existance for a few years already, and so far as I know there is nothing else being planned.I know UP is doubling a lot from LA-El Paso. What about east of El Paso to Houston? Is any more track being added there?
