In looking at train availability online, I came across something odd - next week (10/1-7), the northbound Coast Starlight (#14) departs Klamath Falls 2 hours after its arrival, and all times from that point north are delayed by 2 hours. I suspect there must be track work somewhere north of KFS that necessitates holding the train- has anyone heard about this? It will break the connection with the EB - trying to book a trip involving both gives you a next-day connection (or a bus, if coming from EUG or other points with Thruway alternatives). Wondering if they may be doing anything southbound - not seeing anything right now, but Im scheduled to connect from 11 to 6 at SAC on 10/3.

Sounds like trackwork somewhere around Eugene that will clear up by the time #11 would get there, but #14 would be in the thick of the work window. Hence, the 2-hr hold in K-Falls of #14.

Track work being performed by Union Pacific Railroad will affect northbound Train 14, as shown below:

Train 14 will depart Los Angeles and operate as scheduled through its arrival at Klamath Falls at 8:07 am the following day. On October 1 through October 8, the train will wait at Klamath Falls for two hours, departing at 10:17 am, and continue to Seattle, operating two hours later at all remaining stations on the route. Contact Amtrak for detailed schedule information.

Connection to Empire Builder Train 28
To accommodate the later schedule, service adjustments have been made for passengers connecting to Empire Builder Train 28, as follows:

  • October 1 through October 6: Passengers on Train 14 who are connecting to Train 28 at Portland will detrain at Klamath Falls where bus service will be provided to Pasco, WA. At Pasco, passengers will board eastbound Train 28.
  • October 7 and 8: Connections at Portland from Train 14 to Train 28 will not be available on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8.
  • October Customers boarding at Eugene, Albany or Salem who are connecting to Train 28 from Train 14 will, instead, take Amtrak Cascades Thruway Bus 5528 to Portland where you will transfer to Train 28.
