Hello all, I'm a fairly new user here. I've been lurking amongst topics for a bit and now's the time I stop and say "hi" to you all. I've always had a keen interest in trains, but have not traveled by them much. I am however considering a big cross country trip (east coast to west and back) next year, and have been finding a lot of good information here. More info on the trip to come later when I can organize my thoughts and decide what questions to ask, but for now I'll just say "hi" and thanks for all the great information you provide at this forum.

Welcome to AU. The cross country train trips are fabulous!! We have a daughter living in San Francisco, so we

take at least one trip to see her each year. We have taken the California Zephyr, the Southwest Chief - Coast

Starlight, the Texas Eagle - Sunset Limited - Coast Starlight and the Empire Builder - Coast Starlight trips and

enjoyed each one. We now originate in Florida taking the Silver Meteor - Lake Shore Limited to Chicago, then

board the western trains. I hope you have happy train traveling.

I join others in saying "welcome". I also, joined only minutes ago, and I look forward to reading many posts.

Cross Country rail is magnificent. Have done it many times. I am in the travel business and an Amtrak specialist. I have clients about to travel across the country and back and they have never been on a train before. Lots and lots of details. Just finishing up a very detailed itinerary. I am sure you will love it also. What time of year are you looking at?

Hello to "the traveler". Thanks for your welcome! I'm having a little problem navigating. Early today I came on and found something. Rey interesting. Someone had posted "who are you?" Some interesting reading and I was sorry to have to leave for a moment. Now I can't find it! That becomes reality many times lol. Just can't find either glasses, hearing aid, book, shoes lol. Have you any idea where I saw the post "who are you"? Thanks

@Chicago, unsure at this time. Depends when my GF and I can make our vacation times coincide next year. Looking possibly from April on. I see that roomettes seem to book up pretty far out. Seeing some '1 left' notices on spring dates already. I live a half mile from ELT station, so this will be a trip to Chicago then either out west on the Empire Builder or straight to Cali on maybe the Zephyr, then back possibly on the Texas Eagle. Still a lot of 'maybes' and 'possiblys' in the planning. But, we def want to go with a roomette. As an aside, I'm also thinking about a solo trip to the Trinity site in New Mexico in April via rail (mostly), so looking into that as well.

That refers to 1 left at this price (current bucket). You can get an idea of how many roomettes are available by putting in 8 adults and seeing how many rooms are in the drop down box
