There used to be an entrance into the station from 31st Street, mid block between 7th and 8th Avenues, is that still there? We've used it in the past when returning a rental car to the Avis office right across 31st Street.

And once we're in the station, will it be a straight (no stairs) route to get to the 33rd Street side exit of the Moynihan Train Hall (33rd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues). We might want to use that to get to the hotel right across 33rd Street.

Thanks!

I am assuming you are referring to the entrance on the old taxi drive that went between 33rd and 31st mid block between 7th and 8th Aves.

You can do it, but it is complicated as Neroden points out. That entrance puts you in the "rotunda" section of Penn's old Amtrak level. You walk around the circular waiting area to the old Amtrak concourse. Take an escalator down to the LIRR level (which was an under construction mess in November). Head towards the A/C/E subway, veer around to the West End Concourse, take the escalators up to Moynihan main level, take another escalator up to Moynihan street level.

It would be a lot simpler and probably faster to just stay on the street.
