Even "Simply Railway", who has featured couchette accommodation in several past videos, conceded in the SNCF one that he wouldn't miss the couchette if it went away in favor of private rooms. The times they are a-changing.

And the other side of the coin, I found that sleeping in a 6-seat Second Class compartment is no more difficult on a one-night trip than sleeping in a 6-berth couchette/liegewagen. I've done the 8-seat version on SNCF (seven French sailors and me), but I was a lot younger then.
