Is this heaven? No. It's Iowa.
A heads up if you store bags at the Amtrak station and want to get to the HI Portland NW hostel at NW 18th & NW Glisan.

Of course we can walk the 1/2 mile to the hostel, catch a bus (#77), get a Lyft - or we can ride an 8 speed bike: https://www.biketownpdx.com/how-it-works
The bikes are out front of the station and there is a bike station a block from the hostel (NW Flanders & NW 18th)
This month (May '18) you can ride (single ride) for free.

The light rail MAX train from the airport stops 5 blocks (0.3 miles) from the hostel.

I like Portland, it has a somewhat more relaxed feel than many cities. I don't know if the tram/light rail has been extended since I last used that hostel, but I caught the 77 bus with my heavy bag. Recommend nearby "Trader Joes" for food supplies if you are cooking meals at the hostel. Happy memories of my visits to Portland.

Ed.
