A cut and dry trip up and down the ex-PRR Northeast Corridor. Weather was lovely in the morning, a bit overcast/rainy in the afternoon. 12 total passengers in coach. No one's first train trip this round. ShareFares provided a much better deal than Group Sales was able to offer. Train 152 was delayed 30-35 from some sort of trackwork issue at WAS. Once aboard, service was prompt, ride was uncharacteristically smooth. I was very impressed. A few minutes were made up en route, but were lost again due to single tracking through Hudson River tunnels. Wayfinding in NYP continues to be substandard.
After a full afternoon and too much lovely Italian food, we boarded a punctual Train 57 at NYP. Departed on time, moved about 150ft, and waited for 8 minutes, presumably again due to construction. Decent sunset observed. There were no tables available in the split business-lounge due to crew use of approximately half of them, a chronic problem. Very speedy ride. Arrived PHL 4 late, having made the run NYP-PHL in a mere 78 minutes, averaging 70mph over the trip. Crews were remarkable and professional in both directions. Lavatory at PHL was remarkably and unusually unkempt. SEPTA connections were mostly punctual and busy in both directions.
In a stunning note, the walkup fare for this round trip was the maximum $256/passenger for coach! That's $1.41/mile. Business was naturally even more. Much less was paid by us.
