I have tried several times with various dates in April. Haven't tried other months, but while it shows "promo applied", the fare for two is twice the amount that it is for one without the promo. Although I am disabled, I have tried it both with and without disabled. I believe I have tried everything and it's still not giving me the two for one fare. I'm looking for Bnl to Kcy. I also tried just bnl to stl with no luck. Am I doing something wrong?

I looked at the trip we are planning in July. While it is true that there is a "Saver Fare" that is less than the fare for one person coach, that is only for one person. When I use the promo input, I get the one person fare for the two of us.

That said, I went to Amtrak.com and used the link in the changing teaser at the top of the page and it did NOT give me the 2-for-1

When I use the link in my Amtrak email that they sent me telling about the promo - it works and gives me the 2-for-1

Try this link and see if it helps

I tried the link and spent about another 45 minutes on the link and through the email and it is still not giving me the two for one. The link didn't help. This really has me puzzled.

You certainly need to use an adult fare, not senior or disability.

You can not use 2 discounts on one reservation. Senior and/or disability is one discount (10%) and the 2 for 1 is another discount (50%). Likewise, senior/disability (10%) can not be used with Saver fares (20-30%).

Whenever I use the Amtrak Website - it automatically changes me from Senior and/or Disabled to Adult without me having to change it.

Also, it should be noted, the 2-for-1 will be based on the "Adult" fare ... so, it is possible for a single Senior ticket to be less than the price of the 2-for-1 price - however, the 2-for-1 should not show as twice the price of the ticket

Example
  • Adult Fare = $75 for each ticket
  • Senior/Disabled Fare = $67.50 for each ticket
  • Saver Fare = $52 for each ticket
  • 2-for-1 Promo = $75 for pair of tickets
You should also note that you may not be able to book 4 tickets for the price of 2 on a single booking - you may need to book 2 bookings of 2 tickets each

Are you signed in, and is that set as your default?

I get the same prices signed in or not.

My default is Disabled ... because it is easier to list a second passenger as "companion" for an additional discount - which I cannot do signed in as "senior" (my wife does not yet qualify as a senior)

I usually do my pricing tests NOT signed in ... and I check them all tree ways - Adult/Senior/Disabled just to see if the results match.

There have been times when, checking as a senior, the "saver" fare is not listed .... then, when I check as "adult" it is there

In most cases, when I go in from an email link to a "special offer" I always get the offer applied regardless of Adult/Senior/Disabled ... however, if I check a date and want to change the date, sometimes I have to go back to the original link to get the promo ... additional checking without this step sometime causes the promo to disappear.

I successfully booked two one way tickets today.

Prior to doing my bookings, as I was doing my research, I found I needed to return to the link on the website’s main page to “start again” if I made changes to my search.

I was able to book a round-trip for my wife and I for a July trip .... I did use the link in the email to start the process.

I have had times, in the past, where I had to book two one-way bookings because it would not give me the promo for the return trip ... this time I got the promo both ways

Now if I could just get a better deal on a place to stay

I never book round trips, either for trains or planes. ;)
