I have spent the last hour searching for promo codes, but there is nothing working. Anybody have any hints?

... sorry. New at this. I'm in Oregon going to Washington if that makes any difference. Thank you

There are rarely any "open" promo codes.

There are specific codes for people who can prove they belong to certain clubs or organizations (have a membership card). Unless things changed, the best is to belong to the Red Hat society.

what promotion are you looking for, did you see an AD from amtrak ?

In Amtrak advertisements that promote discounted rail fares, we usually provide a short, alphanumeric piece of text, known as a Promotion Code, which generally looks like this:

H123

You can use a valid Promotion Code when booking your travel online to get savings on eligible rail fares. Simply enter the correct Promotion Code in the 'Promotion Code' box during reservation booking process.

Tips for Successfully Using a Promotional Fare

Many promotional fares have restrictions. If the Promotion Code you provide is not eligible for the service you selected, you will be offered a regular fare. Try these options to get a promotional fare:

  •
  • Often, promotional discounts may not be applied to services like Acela Express and Downeaster (service to Maine). Try selecting a different service.
  • Often, promotional discounts may not be applied to travel on Fridays and Sundays in the Northeast between Boston and Washington, DC. If possible, try traveling Monday through Thursday or on Saturday.
  • Often, there are advanced purchase requirements. You may need to change your departure date to ensure that it meets such requirements.
  • Some promotional discounts can be combined with passenger discounts (such as Senior, AAA, NARP, Student Advantage or Veterans Advantage discounts). However, with some offers you may need to select "Adult" as the Passenger Discount type to obtain the discount. Please refer to the terms and conditions associated with each promotion to learn which passenger discounts can be used in combination with the promotional offer.

AU normally does not post a list of promo codes, but you may want to check out THIS LINK!

Ed;

I understand the 62 and over half fare on the Downeaster is valid through the end of this year; there aren't many discounts like this available on any Amtrak routes very often.Of course, I'm sure NNERPA has something to do with setting this promotion up. Sometimes it pays to be as old as dirt...

Amtrak is honoring the dedication of the nation's military this Independence Day with an additional discount for those who serve. Members of the military will receive an additional 10 percent discount on tickets purchased the week of the July 4th holiday -- July 1 through July 9 -- for travel August 21 through November 12. The 10 percent discount is in addition to Amtrak's everyday 10 percent discount for members of the military, their spouses and dependents.

"As a former member of the military, I know first-hand, the sacrifice made by members of the military and their families," said Joe Boardman, Amtrak's President and CEO. "As we celebrate Independence Day, Amtrak applauds the efforts of the men and women who wear our nation's uniform and welcomes them and their families on board." This additional discount is available to active duty members of the military, their spouses and dependents. Reservists currently serving on active duty as well as those serving as temporary active duty are also eligible. A current active duty United States Armed Forces Identification Card is required to receive the discount.

With service to more than 500 stations in 46 states, Amtrak offers service to a number of cities that are home to military bases including Albuquerque, N.M.; El Paso, Texas; Fayetteville, N.C.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; San Diego, Calif.; Tampa, Fla.; and Washington, DC. Reservations may be made online at Amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL using discount code V818. The military discount may be combined with Amtrak's every day Kid's Half Price fare. With this fare up to two children ages 2 to 15 travel at half price when accompanied by an adult, making Amtrak a great way for families to travel.

The military discount is not available on weekday Acela Express service or joint Amtrak/Via Rail service. Upgrades to Business Class, First Class, or sleeping accommodations are available upon payment of applicable charges. Other restrictions apply. Please see Amtrak.com for details. There are no additional taxes or fees to Amtrak prices.
