I tried, but it did not work. Still working on it.

I used the link on the train status detail from Status Maps, and it is not working. I'm now at a loss.

I rarely use bookmarks but I do use Favorites a lot. Sometimes when I favorite a lave-updating site it dosen't work when I click it again. I have to save the URL to a Word document then copy it over every time I want to use it.

They seemed to have redesigned the site as to not allow direct linking. If you view the frame that pops up, you get a 404.

Hmm, direct linking works for a lot of these live-update sites, but I'm not sure about the Amtrak Train Tracker. I'm not planning an Amtrak trip, so I don't need to use it.

I had to remove the links from the Amtrak Status Maps and the individual train listings because the links no longer work. Amtrak has changed it so that you have to go through Amtrak.com to get to their train tracker.

I'm looking for a way to reactivate the direct links but frankly, I need help figuring out how to do it.

Also, I'd appreciate it if someone could post this over at TO: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,3215412

Thanks,

jb

The train tracker is looking for an HTTP Referer of http://www.amtrak.com/home. There are browser plugins that allow you to specify the referer that you want to send to a particular site. I just tried one called Referer Control in Chrome that seems to work fine. If you want to try it, your settings should look like this:

That's a good start. But how do I set up a link on an existing page with HTML or javascript to set up that referer without using a plugin?

Thanks,

jb

The member-provided link to the train routes page is still working fine on my ancient Mac with Safari and no plug-ins enabled except javascript.

Dang IT !! One more rather annoying new problem with this new so called "FIX" is that

NO more LIVE GPS train status.

The data for Everything seems to be DELAYED 30 minutes at least--if not more.

Prior to this annoying so called software FIX Trian data info WAS current within 5 to 10 Minutes.

Nice going Amtrak you seem to have ruined what was a very cool train info too.

THe stupid Police state "Security Theather nonsense claims another victim .

EDIT for some eastern trains the data seems to be within 5 to 10 minutes.

EDIT other california and western trains GPS data seem to be about 30 minutes old

I'm not seeing what you're seeing. When I check a few trains right now, they all seem current within about 5 minutes. The longest delay I can see is 10 minutes.

It looks like they changed how it is handled. I don't know enough about coding to decipher what needs to be done this time; last time it was fairly simple. The URL http://www.amtrak.com/train-routes/trainlocationmap should be the correct one, but if I had to guess there is some script that has to pull the data off from that page.

I get an Amtrak error page when using that link. Does it work for anyone else?
