Security Measures

I haven't taken many Amtrak trips since 9/11 (only one short one to Montreal). Does Amtrak search people's luggage at all? Or have they implemented any other new security measures?

Well I personally haven't witnessed any searches of carry-on luggage in my travels. That however is not meant to suggest that it doesn't happen. If you are going to check your bags, then there is a definite possibility that you could be asked to open your bags.

I suspect that there are indeed random searches of carry-on luggage and certainly if you are doing something that looks suspicious, then you can expect to have your bags searched.
