It's been a bad month for the Silver Service in FL...this one just a few miles from my home. Driver was apparently stopped on the tracks & the gates closed in front & back of her car; Bystanders were yelling to the driver to jump out of the car, but to no avail. Car burst into flames. Article doesn't mention damage to the train or injuries to any of the 75 passengers or crew. Very tragic, this didn't need to happen.

Crew & pax uninjured. Automobile driver fatally injured at scene. Train was 97(11) with 91(11) behind it holding at the DFB station. Both 97 & 91 were operating on No. 1 track (the west track) but most of the debris from the automobile ended up on No. 2 track (the east track.)

Tri-Rail had to set up a bus bridge between the Deerfield Beach & Cypress Creek stations for a couple of hours. 97 & 91 were released after about 2.5 hours when the Pompano Beach PD and the Medical Examiner finished their investigation.

No damage to 97's lead unit except a bent sand bracket on one side of the lead truck.

There are continuously flashing amber lights at this crossing (Sample Road) that highlight traffic signs reading "Do Not Stop on Tracks." You're absolutely correct, FriskyFL, this, and all similar accidents, should never happen if motorists & pedestrians use common sense and obey the law.

I agree. This accident was the driver's mistake.
