It's that time once again where we can take a look ahead at the upcoming schedule changes and show them in condensed form. This may repeat some things already reported in other threads. New train numbers shown in red.

TWILIGHT SHORELINER

The TWILIGHT SHORELINER will revert to a Boston-Washington train, still numbered 66 and 67 seven days a week, and it will be renamed the FEDERAL. It will remain a sleeper train, but will be rescheduled so that arrival times in Boston and Washington are more customer-friendly. The Virginia portion of the former TWILIGHT SHORELINER will become a separate daytime coach train, running between Washington and Newport News. It will be numbered 76 northbound every day. On weekdays, the southbound train leaves Washington at 8:00 AM and is Train 77. On weekends it will leave Washington at 8:30 AM and be Train 75.

VERMONTER

There are no significant changes to the northbound VERMONTER, Trains 54 (weekends) and 56 (weekdays). However, in the southbound direction, both 55 (weekdays) and 57 (weekends) will now originate in St. Albans, VT at 10:45 AM. This is over two hours later on weekends, and four hours later on weekdays. It provides a much more acceptable departure time from Vermont points, as well as for those coming by the connecting bus from Montreal.

ADIRONDACK

No significant changes to Trains 68, 69, 70, or 71.

ETHAN ALLEN EXPRESS

Northbound pattern of 293 running Fridays only, and 291 running the other six days of the week continues. Southbound, Train 294 now runs weekdays only and will depart Rutland at 7:10 AM, about two hours earlier than it currently does. Sundays it runs as 296 and it departs from Rutland at 5:25 PM. New is 12:30 PM departure on Saturdays only, called Train 292.

MAPLE LEAF

No significant changes to eastbound Train 64. Westbound, the train will now operate on the same schedule seven days a week, and be called Train 63. No more 65.

EMPIRE SERVICE

Northbound between New York City and Albany, some trains swapped timeslots. On weekday mornings, Train 281 will now leave New York two hours earlier at 9:45 AM, while 251 takes its place at 11:45 AM. This allows 281 to arrive in Niagara Falls in time for a late dinner at 6:40 PM. On weekends, the Niagara Falls train retains its 11:45 AM timeslot out of New York City, and will be called 285. It will get to Niagara Falls 8:35 PM.

Trains 257 and 283 will also switch places. Train 283 will now be the 1:45 PM New York departure for Niagara Falls, arriving there 10:30 PM. Its current 3:45 PM timeslot from New York will be 257, which terminates in Albany. Both trains continue to run every day of the week.

Train 271, the daily 8:20 PM New York departure for Albany, becomes weekdays only. On weekends, it will depart from New York one hour later, and be Train 275.

Train 284 will depart from Niagara Falls at 5:50 AM, and run on weekdays only. Currently it's weekdays and Saturdays, with a much later run on Sundays as 288. On weekends, a new 288 will depart from Niagara Falls 7:50 AM. Train 286 will continue to run on a daily basis Niagara Falls-New York, but it will depart Niagara Falls at 10 AM, two hours later than its current schedule. The old Sunday-only late departure of 288, which represented a 9:15 PM train from Albany, is cancelled.

Because of all this, there is a major shuffle in the Albany-New York corridor. On weekdays, Trains 284 and 294 (the earlier ETHAN ALLEN mentioned above) swap slots. 284 will now depart at 12:00 noon, while 294 moves to the earlier 10:00 AM Albany departure. Train 260, the current weekday 3:15 PM departure, moves to 2:00 PM to take the place of 286. Weekday Train 262, the current 4:15 PM departure, moves to 3:15 PM. And the rescheduled 286 will now occupy the 4:15 PM timeslot from Albany seven days a week.

On Saturdays and Sundays, Train 254 will leave Albany for New York City at 10 AM, and 256 will be the 12:00 noon departure. New Train 288 will be the 2:00 PM departure from Albany. The Saturday version of the ETHAN ALLEN, 292, will leave Albany at 3:15 PM.
