Has the Texas Eagle route from Chicago to Seattle always been an option on days that the Sunset Limited runs?

This is one of the longest 2 zone redemptions I can find and I don't remember seeing it a year ago -

Departing Chicago: Texas Eagle

65 hr, 50 min

14 Coast Starlight

34 hr, 2 min

I haven't calculated how many AmSteaks one would get on this route, but it's pretty good.

Not sure I fully comprehend your question, however my experiences have been:

The Texas Eagle/Sunset Ltd runs 3 days per week from Chicago to Los Angeles - as an aside: the ridiculously early arrival in LA is one that I avoid. Anyway . . .

The Coast Starlight runs daily from Los Angeles to Seattle.

Both segments have operated this way for quite some time.

My preference is to take the SW Chief from Chicago to LA for connection with the Coast Starlight - has not failed me yet.

Now to your point - I do believe what you have brought up is indeed the longest 2 zone trip for redemption; a total of 4 nights riding the rails (bedrooms for me!).

Later . . .
