Thailand - New Bangkok Central Station now open

Bang Sue Central Station is now open and although it's official name Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal is on the tickets, all the signage directing you when arriving and inside the station has Bang Sue as it's title.

This station is enormous, all photos are street level.

From arrival drop-off and stepping through the entrance - looking to the left. It is about double this visible distance and only the front section of this level.

Wow. Just wow.
I saw it from the outside as my sleeper train rolled by last month and it looked huge. Inside looks both huge and modern. Nicely done, Thailand!

It looks nice at first glance, but so did Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang once upon a time, so I'll wait to pass judgement until full service is established. I'm hopeful that the ongoing build-out of new routes and trains will be successful and give us more options for clean, safe, and efficient transit at a reasonable price. That said, anything that weakens the taxi mafia, competes with short haul flying, and avoids minibus deathtraps is a win in my book.

Nicely done indeed. They are still working out how to use the place but are getting there.
We actually used Bang Sue station both ways (locals are using both Bang Sue and KTA as names in place of the station new full name "Krung Thep Aphiwat" although our return sleeper ticket from Chiang Mai stated that Don Muang (airport) was the end of the line!
The car attendant didn't mention the new destination station but it was plastered over every tv screen both inside and outside of the cars.
Got one or two great photos of the onboard toilet and shower facilities 'in use icons' tv screen info, it is very amusing when one or other of us used the facilities. Bit spooky too.

Just amazed at how extensively you are travelled in SE Asia.
You hit the nail on the head re taxi mafia and and the mini bus transports although we find taking your life in your hands occasionally does remind you that you are still alive.
Yesterday evening at a cab rank outside Hua Lamphong station I raised my voice for the first time in a long time, and I wouldn't consider ourselves as demanding travellers in any sense. There was something going on we couldn't fathom, a couple of drivers were downright rude, one to Rosie which I can't tolerate.
Pleased you took Jim's advice, we'll have to talk one day.
