I'm planning a possible trip from Greenwood MS to NOLA and was wondering a couple of things. Does anyone know if there is parking at the Greenwood station (I notice the Amtrak book no longer says whether or not there is parking) and also the closest motel or hotel in Greenwood. When arriving at New Orleans how far is the French Quarter, is it necessary to take a taxi is the area safe? Any help will be appreciated.

greenwood has parking, but no hotel next to station. Closest might be Econo Lodge, some 2 miles away. Nice BBQ place across from station.

You should consider taxi in new orleans, available in front of station.

enjoy your trip.

Yes, you should take a taxi to the French Quarter. It is possible to walk it, but it's a long walk, and if you are not familiar with the area it is not really a good idea.

There are always taxis at the Amtrak station in NOLA, and it costs about $10.00 to get to the French Quarter.
