Just so you know, I was not asked for my proof of vaccine Sunday when I visited the lounge at NYP. As with everything Amtrak, the only consistent thing is it’s inconsistency!

I've always found the NYP Metro Lounge Attendants pretty strict about enforcing entrance requirements, including during my visit in May to the New Lounge in Moynihan Train Hall.

I got turned away on Tuesday. I knew the attendant was 'doing his job', so I went back down the escalator.

So I went to the 'ticketed passengers' lounge and there was no signs or personnel indicating vaccination required to enter. Go figure. Given that seating was much more densely spaced there than in the Metro Lounge compared to what was visible from below the glassed-in balcony of the upstairs lounge, I'm totally puzzled by the inconsistency.

Probably because the waiting area for coach pax is not "enclosed". I think you'll have to look up NYC's requirements to see where vax proofs are required.

NYC has a vax req'd for indoor dining rule that went into effect. Don't have to be fully vaxxed, just first shot, as a matter of fact, mobile vax units have been located in many restaurant heavy areas, get a shot, eat indoors.... You can pick up a "grab n go" if you are denied lounge entry. The station complex itself is covered under masking, not vax. We have been vaccinating tourist for quite a while, many walk up no appointment sites available.

I think it’s the indoor dining requirement. Also... you should get the shot!

Given various medical issues I have, adding any new medications and/or vaccines always presents side effects in varying degrees.

Back in June, a new prescription caused me to be doubled over in extreme abdominal pain and complete loss of appetite within 3 hours of the first dose which was on a Friday. As I had no way to contact my doctor at that point, I 'dealt with it' for 36 hours before I could stand it no more and stopping. I called the doctor on Monday and she held off prescribing anything new.

The CDC VAERS database shows more than a million Covid vaccine-related side effects, including death. I'm not willing to have to 'deal with' any of them!

And a very common side effect of COVID is death. I just saw a sad item about a young couple in Washington State with an eight year old daughter. The parents were unvaccinated because they both were worried about vaccine side-effects. Both caught COVID at the county fair, apparently, and both the mother and father died this week. I teared up thinking about the daughter, who will always know that she became an orphan because her parents feared potential side effects more than COVID. Terrible...

What are the actual statistics for death though? AFAIK they are low, although probably higher than the vaccine.

If you are asking about death rates from COVID for the unvaccinated versus the vaccinated, here is a snapshot: since the beginning of this year, 1184 Philadelphia residents have died from COVID. Over 98% of them were unvaccinated. Unvaccinated Make Up Nearly 100% of Philly COVID Deaths in 2021 This is consistent with other statistics--deaths from COVID are almost entirely confined to those who are unvaccinated.

If you are asking how COVID ranks as a cause of death in the US, it is now the third leading cause of death, after heart disease and cancer. Annually, heart disease kills about 650,000 and cancer a bit under 600,000. Accidents account annually for a little under 175,000. So COVID has become nearly the killer that our top two causes of death are.

If you are looking for an overall grim statistic, 1 out of every 500 Americans alive at the time that COVID was diagnosed here has died from COVID. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/07/07/delta-variant-covid/

There is no argument, really. COVID has killed well over 650,000 Americans and nearly 5 million worldwide. The death rate for vaccinated persons who get cases of COVID is vastly lower than among the non-vaccinated. VAER requires that all deaths among vaccinated persons (from all vaccinations) be reported. Of the more than 185 million COVID vaccinated Americans, the number of deaths reported after vaccination is about 7,500. This means death from any source whatever--including car crashes, for example . The number of those deaths that can be attributed to the vaccine after analysis--3 total, and-none traced to the mRNA vaccines.

Will most COVID cases be fatal? No, thank God. But enough are that we'd be damn fools to ignore the risks of dying unnecessarily that way. Not to mention the issues of getting long-COVID.

VAERS accepts whatever you give it without question. In raw form it's as relevant as Facebook & Twitter.

If you're in bad enough shape that a vaccine shot might kill you actual Covid will have a field day.

And people say it's just like the flu. Sure, if you're symptoms are mild. My goodness. Thanks for the info @flitcraft and @Devil's Advocate

If that's something that you've discussed with your doctor and they've recommended, I feel bad for you. You're the reason that those of us that can get the shot should get the shot.

If it isn't, then it's something that you should absolutely do, rather than try to make your own way through the sea of misinformation surrounding this vaccine.

VAERS is just a raw submission of anything that happened after the vaccine, even if totally unrelated to the vaccine.

My girlfriend, who has a host of chronic illnesses, was supposed to submit to VAERS all kinds of symptoms she had after the vaccine which are routine to her chronic illness and have nothing to do with the vaccine, so, you know, that's one way VAERS gets filled with stuff that has nothing to do with the vaccine.

I believe less than a dozen people have actually died due to the vaccine, worldwide, and 6 BILLION doses have been administered. There have only been two causes:
(1) Anaphylactic shock. If you have a tendency towards anaphlylactic shock, you should take the vaccine under a doctor's supervision and have them watch you for several hours after you get the vaccine; they can give you liquid benadryl to stop the shock if it happens.
(2) Myocarditis. I think a couple of people died of vaccine-caused myocarditis (one in New Zealand). Out of BILLIONS. By contrast, Covid itself causes myocarditis at over TEN TIMES the rate, and Covid-induced myocarditis is MUCH WORSE.

About 2% of people who catch Covid die. Somewhere between 10% and 30% get Long Covid. At least 4% of kids who catch Covid get Long Covid (that's the lowest estimate from studies).

The vaccine cuts your risk of getting symptomatic case of Covid by at least 80% -- a factor of 5. If you do get Covid after being vaccinated, your risk of death seems to be far lower than 2%, more like 0.5%. If you do get Covid after being vaccinated, your risk of Long Covid looks like it's cut in half.

The risk calculus is clear: the vaccine is much, much less risky than the risk of being exposed to Covid. If your doctor has recommended that you not take the vaccine, then the risk of Covid for you is astronomical and you need to be in a complete isolated bubble at this point.

Please do some research on what the CDC VAERS database actually shows. I believe it shows ANYTHING that happens to a person once they get a Covid vaccine (like strep throat, a broken arm, dying because the person is 106 years old, etc.). Not everything can be blamed on the vaccine.
