Hello, I am booked on the Silver Star and Silver Meteor in mid September. On the Star I am in Car 9110, Bedroom B. On the Meteor I am in Car 9811, Bedroom B. What do you think my chances are for receiving a VLII instead of a VLI? Thanks.

Both of those are VI’s unfortunately. Maybe try to call and request.

EDIT: it’s possible 10 is a VII. Just looked at my record of my recent Silver Meteor trip. I think it was a II, so maybe the star is doing the same

During my recent trips on the Meteor and Star this month, V-2s were the 10 and 12 cars on the Meteor and the 11 car on the Star. Things could be different in September.

I’m on the Star in late September—Car 9110. Would be nice if that was a VL2, but either/or is fine.

I would like to experience a VLII on at least one leg of my trip. But, I’ll be happy with either one.

On a different note, is there a way we can pin this thread or put this in a general location? There have been countless of threads asking this same question.

Only if we give Amtrak dining its own forum! :)

And Brightline its own subforum.

I just saw the northbound Silver Star travel through Orlando and it still has 2 sleeper cars. The 10 car is a V-1 and 11 car is a V-2.

Thank you, PennyK. If this consist continues into September, I'll be riding south in a VL-I on the Star. I'm in 9110. The northbound trip is on the Meteor in 9811. Maybe that will be a VL-II. We shall see.

I’m on #91 in a Bedroom in very late September. Car 9110. Any chance that’ll be in a VL2? I’ve heard the bedrooms still have potties.

I scored that Bedroom for 31K points. Now, it seems you can’t get one for less than 50K points!! What a steal!

The Star consist currently is a V-1 on the 10 car and V-2 on the 11 car. Bedrooms on both versions have restrooms. It is possible that the consist may change by the end of September or it may remain the same. Because the Star is only running with 2 sleepers, they are selling out faster and are more expensive (in my experience when pricing trips).

Well, either way it will be fine. I was happy with the Bedroom experience on the VL1. I just take what is given.

Cockroaches? Ants?
Lol. Nope, the AC wasn't working well in several Bedrooms while the Roomettes were Cold.

One member reported that the Shower didn't drain properly.

There's always " bugs" to work out on all new things!

I noticed the A/C in my VL1 last February didn’t work well once we reached Florida. There was snow on the ground in PA, but it reached the low 80s after Jacksonville. I had to close the curtains to keep the sun out! I sat in the new VL2 diner part of the time where the A/C was great. Might be the fact the Freon likely needed to be recharged in the aging VL1.

But, it was perfectly comfortable overnight. I definitely had a smoother ride in the VL1 than on the old Amfleets on the Keystone. That car just shimmied to kingdom come, and really aggravated my back!!

In retrospect, though the Amfleet 1 is rated for up to 125 mph; I believe they have a “comfort limit.” Much of the Keystone Line allows for speeds of 90 mph or high. At 90 mph, that’s when I noticed the super shimmy!

I’ve been on a few Viewliner I’s with broken A/C (fortunately all broke on day 2 so we were easily accommodated in other rooms/cars). Actually, one of those instances was my bedroom’s A/C not working but the roomettes in the same car did.

I had the experience of my bedroom AC not working on a Viewliner 2 in May. The AC in the roomette section of the car was working. I ended up sitting either in the dining car or an empty roomette.
