Looks like they went into a vortex around Petersburg/Richmond.

Unusual delays around there. Normal changes/ switches are at Fayetteville.

Anybody update?

Delays between Alexandria (ALX) to Rocky Mount (RMT) and Fayetteville NC are not unusual. There have been far fewer in the past 2 months since CSX apparently wrapped summer track work, but they still happen. If CSX were to fully double track the A-line from south of Petersburg to south of Rocky Mount, it would be a big help to the Silver, Palmetto, Carolinian services. Virginia will be providing funds to improve the CSX track from RVR to the turnoff to Norfolk so they can add 2 more daily trains to Norfolk.

In this case, southbound #97(11/05) was 50 minutes late arriving at WAS after departing BAL 18 minutes late, and then encountered more delays between ALX to RVR and PTB to RMT. The northbound #98(11/05) lost time from Florence to PTB, but appears to be making it up.

Here is the Amtrak Status map dump for #97 through FLO showing the delays.

There is no plan to double-track south of Petersburg (specifically Collier Yard). However, there is a plan to add three crossovers on the existing sections of double-track in North Carolina between Collier Yard and Rocky Mount. This will help.

As long as SEHSR talks about restoring the direct Raleigh-Collier Yard line (ex-Seaboard Air Line) for passenger trains and selected freight trains, you would see any major investment in the ex-ACL between Collier Yard and Florida.
