What caused #1 to lose 3 hours 40 minutes, and #2 to lose 1 hour between HOS and SAS this morning?

Confused... only one train a day each way here.

Probably due to the Brazos River Bridge issue, trains are taking a detour as a result.

Not sure what the initial delay to #1 was, but they showed up at San Antonio several hours late. They were still in the station when we arrived on #2, and we had to wait until their switching work with the Eagle to be complete before we could complete our switching. It seemed like things did not work out well because the whole crew seemed frustrated.

They're still using the Galveston sub detour. I check http://http://asm.transitdocs.com/ on days it's running. Estimates I've heard for completion of the bridge repair is June 18th. They did try it about a week or so ago but something slipped on the repairs and UP has to redo some of it.

Traffic has been flowing over the Brazos for nearly a week now. Also Sunset ran both directions in east TX today.

The bridge opened for a few days, and then had to close again because another pier started sinking. So they're having to do another pier replacement, with more associated detours.

One would think that with the Brazos river bridge problems UP and Amtrak would want the detour to remain until a couple week's operation of freights confirms the bridge is not going to act up. Who wants to see the Sunset in the Brazos river ?

Thanks for the information. I hadn't realized that the bridge was closed to traffic after it opened. Seeing #1 lose nearly four hours was a surprise.

While this is true, I think loaded rock or coal trains will/would have much bigger chance of affecting the bridge than a relatively light Amtrak train.

Insurance? What's Insurance??? ;)
