Moffat Tunnel closures to force Amtrak detours

Maintenance work set for June, July

Denver Post Staff Writer

When the 6.2-mile-long Moffat Railroad Tunnel west of Denver is repeatedly closed - for eight days at a time this summer - Amtrak will offer bus service to Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction to those with reservations on the California Zephyr.

Not too bad. It looks like you'll be able to see both routes, the main route on the westbound trip and the detour on the return trip.

You'll be enjoying on rare mileage on CZ via Wyoming. At least you'll have the longest non-stop section between the stations (unless there'll be a service stop.)

You'll have to ask Anthony to edit the mileage in Miletrak once you've completed the journey. :blink:
 
maybe they will stop in Borie, WY, that is, if the Amshack is still standing out there, then bus people to cheyenne like they used to do pre-1997 on the Pioneer. Borie was the place people got off to go to cheyenne back then.

This is last summer's news. So far I haven't heard of any such diversion this summer.
 
They didn't stop the train anywhere except for crew changes and UP freight congestion (or track/signal problems).
