Boston - Montreal new rail alignment

I love Montreal and Quebec, however this has to be route not suitable for passenger rail.

AMTRAK tried AutoTrain from Chicago decades back and it failed.

    The UAC Turbo Train

Some details: It started at Back Bay Station to shorten the city to city time. for publicity purposes. Turbo trains were abandoned because the maintenance was airplane level compared to diesel mechanics level (This I got from a personal friend employed as an AMTRAK executive at the time it was...

Should we say "good riddance" to the Acela 1s?

There was one Russian and one Chinese, both of the same general design. The food was all cooked from scratch. Further DPRK beer is pretty good stuff, unlike ROK beer all of which is terrible. The DPRK is the most controlled environment one could imagine.

Should we say "good riddance" to the Acela 1s?

In 2014 I took a rail tour of the DPRK (North Korea) from Pyongyang to Chongjin round trip. This was a private tour run by Koryo tours. We had 2 cars of the European type, compartments for 4 converting into 4 beds, a dining car with freshly cooked food, and a crew car. The tracks were in far...

Farewell to the Queen of the Skies

The lucky people were the ones that enjoyed the first class meal in the lounge. I never did, but the lounge used to be open on coast to coast flights with a self service bar. That was pretty good too.

VIA Winter service in Western Canada

When I rode this, the diesel blew uncombusted fuel onto the vista dome making it unsuitable for its intent. On a stop, washing it with water did not not work, only making it different, not better. Hopefully this is not currently happening.

    Using Japan Rail (JR) questions

A Green Car Pass is great. Trust me I have travelled > 50,000 rail miles in Japan with them. And remember sake plus cuttle fish

    Using Japan Rail (JR) questions

Correct and the price for a Green Car JR Pass is about 25% higher.

    Using Japan Rail (JR) questions

You are correct, but almost any round trip from Tokyo to Kyoto or further pays off. To go one way Green Car Tokyo to Hiroshima is JPY 26,700.

    Using Japan Rail (JR) questions

Get a Green Car JR Rail pass. The extra cost is insignificant and gets larger seats that accommodate western size people. These cars are also less crowed usually. Sit back in the Green Car, have a sake, and a snack. My go to snack is little packets of cuttle fish. I have been to Japan > 50...

What to do 8pm-midnight in Pittsburgh?

You should try this: Housed in the beautifully preserved Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Station, the Grand Concourse Restaurant at Station Square is a true testament of grandeur and elegant dining. With cathedral stained-glass vaulted ceilings, marble columns, and a dramatic staircase, guests...

Boston has commuter rail into Back Bay Station, South Stain, Route 128 and North Station which are all AMTRAK stations. Further one can take the MBTA Silver Line from South Station to Logan Airport with drop off at each terminal
