    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I boarded in Greensboro! First time visiting. Really nice town you got there! I visited the Civil Rights museum yesterday and saw the segregated schematic of the train station. Was interesting to see that in person today.

    Crescent discussion 2023 Q4 - 2024

I’m on the 20 that left New Orleans yesterday. It’s running 4 hours late due to a freight derailment. North of Lynchburg they announced free Domino’s pizza and refreshments for everyone and apologized again for the delay. I thought that was a nice touch. Now if only the toilet in my VI...

Very cool - and not as crowded as the rest of it. Thanks for sharing!

    New York, NY

Good morning from the Metropolitan Lounge at Moynihan Train Hall! Just taking a quick Acela down to DC for work but am wistfully looking at the departures wishing I were about to board the Silver Star or another LD train. 😊 Anyway, I just saw on the screens in the Hall that the Highline...

    United, American, Delta, and Southwest

I take over 30 flights per year, mostly domestic. NYC is my base so I have my choice of carriers, but I choose Delta unless there’s no other option or unless there’s a huge difference in fares. I find that Delta has the newest, cleanest planes and the friendliest staff of any legacy. I used to...

Glacier National Park by the Empire Builder

It’s lovely! One of my favorite places I’ve ever stayed. It’s rustic but so charming. The restaurant is excellent too. I had a balcony room and watched some trains go by. It’s not right on top of the tracks but there are some nice benches at the Belton station across the street if you want a...

Glacier National Park by the Empire Builder

Agreed on the car-centricism of the area. I took the EB to Belton and stayed at the Belton Lodge, which I loved. But the walk to the park entrance wasn’t much fun as there’s no sidewalk on the road and a grizzly had recently been spotted on the bike path!

    Home Office on Rails

I thought it a fitting locale for someone inspired by the Empire Builder.

    Question about cross-country train trip

Thanks for the tip about the Gordonsville Marine! I was able to wave as we just passed him. I was even able to catch a pic. :-)

Overtourism, it's not just for Venice anymore

It's too bad that you would let that negative experience with a handful of people 50 years ago prevent you from getting to know one of the great cities of the world. I don't know what happened 50 years ago but I can't imagine such a thing happening today, nor have I ever seen something like that...

Select, Select Plus, Select Executive population

The "trendy" place you read about is called The Bar at Moynihan. It's the not Amtrak lounge. :)
