Agreed on the car-centricism of the area. I took the EB to Belton and stayed at the Belton Lodge, which I loved. But the walk to the park entrance wasn’t much fun as there’s no sidewalk on the road and a grizzly had recently been spotted on the bike path!

I thought it a fitting locale for someone inspired by the Empire Builder.

It's too bad that you would let that negative experience with a handful of people 50 years ago prevent you from getting to know one of the great cities of the world. I don't know what happened 50 years ago but I can't imagine such a thing happening today, nor have I ever seen something like that...

The "trendy" place you read about is called The Bar at Moynihan. It's the not Amtrak lounge. :)
