Who travels in the Sleeper Cars?

While I have flown a few times, I am really quite uncomfortable flying. Flying leaves me arriving at my destination with my nerves shot, and doesn't make for a pleasant experience, for numerous compounding reasons. To me, sleeper class is somewhat like cruising. My roomette is like my cabin...

Who travels in the Sleeper Cars?

One type of sleeper passenger I have come across over the years, is the "token" sleeper. They are a member of a group (a family ?) that otherwise are all traveling in coach. They swap the usage (tag team) of the sleeper compartment throughout their trip (for a nap?). It becomes my...

How reliable is Air Conditioning in Bedroom cars

    Viewliner Sleeper Bathroom Question

I assume you always stay in a hotel, where there is a common shared bathroom down the hall. For me, I think my grandparents did. Yea, I suspect that Hilton or Marriott would save a lot of money, if they could get away with building hotels without private bathrooms in their rooms.

    Silver Service changes?

Because it is better than walking? I was just thinking of a way for cutting back on LD trains, without totally abandoning LD service. If Amtrak had just one "bulk" train covering the East Coast, the Auto Train seems like the logical choice. I was exploring possible answers to the...

    Silver Service changes?

I had not considered that the Silvers cover the same distance in less time (16m faster) even with all their local stops. I wonder why? Expanding my though, I would envision a mini-Silver that would feed the North East, directly into Lorton. The mini-Silver would not need sleepers...

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

Having VL I sleepers on some trains (routes) and VL II sleepers on the others might cause problems unless they simply never sell the "extra" roomette on the VL I sleepers.

    Silver Service changes?

If there any publicly available data, on the percentage of passengers boarding/detraining at each of the stations along the SM and SS routes? I was just thinking if there could be a purely business, and non political, review of the Silver routes. Going on a slight tangent, I wish they allowed...

Viewliner II Part 4: Sleeping Car Production, Delivery, Speculation

Don't the neighbors laugh, when they see you staggering down the street, heading to the gas station, late at night? 😷

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

I assume that if you replied "Then I will take one of those two", they will call the Air Marshall. Though, in TSA jail, I here they are serving Chicken Parm with linguine, for dinner tonight. ;)

Chicago Travel Order - 14 day quarantine

True around here too. The trash people will also pick up, and toss into their truck, any "dibs" furniture, by mayor's order. However, the "dibs" people are very united and strong too, and feel they have righteousness on their side. Something along the lines of Dibbed Spots Matter.

    Auto Train Meals

That's consistent with my usage. I always thought that the Malt Vinegar being offered, was for the fish part of the Fish&Chip entree (Arthur Treacher's, Long John Silver's, but never McD's). I guess I am one of those dumb "southerns" (living south of the Canadian boarder) who has it wrong.

    Viewliner Sleeper Bathroom Question

The only room with a toilet, on the lower level, would be the H or Handicap room, and your head would never be next to its toilet in night-time mode.

Eastern Sleeping Car Passengers Pre-Order Meals

I have to wonder if this was a failure on the part of the Chicago food supplier (ordered food was not delivered to the train), or by Amtrak itself (order never made it to the supplier)? I have had problems with pre-ordered food in airlines before. IMHO, the system would be so much more robust...
