    Keystone Wires Cut

The theft of signaling cable is a fairly large problem in the UK. In some locations the cables are actually optical fibre, but then the thieves don't know then until they rip it up, so there is still disruption.

    A Brit's View

Leeds (where I live) to Prague is, according to google maps around 1000 miles to drive. By rail Leeds - London (domestic), London - Brussels (eurostar), Brussels - Cologne (ICE), Cologne - Prague (City Nightline). Total of 21 hours. Chicago to Boston - also around 1000 miles by road. Lake...

Strangest Things You've seen in Coach

Speaking of intoxicated passengers - when i took the SWC from Flagstaff it was something like 6 hours late out of FLG (both engines failed around ABQ). There was a guy who had evidently spent all 6 hours in a bar and was pretty drunk in the waiting room - enough to make other passengers feel a...

Strangest Things You've seen in Coach

I was sat next to a guy who mid-journey was talking on his cell phone about how he was just going to LA for a day then would turn himself in to the cops. I've no idea what for, and I sure as hell wasn't going to ask.

    What Routes Would You Add?

The Cardinal re-route would be high on my list. Run it from Indianapolis to St. Louis to provide another east-west connection that avoids the de-tour via Chicago, at the cost of a splitting the train or change for passengers to/from Chicago (I'd keep the Hoosier State to maintain the connection...

    Viewliner Order Option

Is a problem that there aren't enough of them? Maybe they should go for Viewliner coaches (whatever they happen to be) for the long distance overnight trains (so they had an all-Viewliner consist), and use the amfleets for day trains.

    Services

I think they can also stop serving alcohol if they think things are getting out of hand. Part of the lounge car guy's spiel on the SWC I was on mentioned they had done this on the previous run (that may have been true or may have been to get us to behave). They were still serving when i got off...

    Google maps Amtrak

It shows todays and tomorrow's trains for me for the cross country routes. It may not show the sunset or cardinal if you look on the wrong day (but then nor does the Amtrak planner). It throws up some odd connections at times. part of a "New York to Los Angeles" route sent me on the Lake Shore...

Amtrak to EWR, KLM to Amsterdam, Thalys to Brussels or Paris, Eurostar to London, East Midlands Trains to Nottingham

    Load 'Em Up

That didn't help on the SWC that I was waiting for. It rolled into Flagstaff around 4 hours late after both the Amtrak engines packed in so there was a freight engine on the front, which just lead to it getting even later. The rumour I heard on the train was there was something up with the...

And across the pond, London Euston suffered a similar fate.

They already have a microwave - it's used to cook the hot dogs in the lounge

Sunset Limited / Texas Eagle PRIIA §210 FY10

I think the CCC on the Capitol is used as a full diner - ie. it has the normal diner menu, just with the CCC seating.
