Amtrak Dining and Cafe Service discussion 2024 H1

Ime my very limited experience in the dinning car, service is generally good, better than some of the First/Business class UNITED and American Airlines flight attendants who I have compared to fire breathing dragons. Heck, it was a number of years ago now, I was flying United Airlines in their...

I used to order the Black Bean Burger with cheese and bacon. The looks I would get from the Amtrak staff was priceless.

I noticed that they removed Woodford Reserve, don't remember if Maker's Mark was there before or not.

Hollerbachs is just ok IMHO, it used to be good prior to it becoming an institution. Now it feels more like a commissary than a restaurant. My wife and I prefer Tennessee Honey, Colorado's Steakhouse and The District. Henry's Depot is fun too

That brought back memories of my time riding trains in India. My wife and I rode the Mahajara Express and the Deecan Odyssey and those were impressive trains with impeccable service and food. Indian railway was pretty good too, while the food was not fancy by any means, if one likes Indian...

    Tipping on Amtrak

I had a funny one recently, my wife and I like Woodford and we each ordered one to have with our dessert. I didn't have a $10, so I figured the server in the dinning car worked really hard, so I left a $20. Next thing I know, he comes up behind my wife and I, saying you left something. Before...

An Open House Train, done in 1995

Amtrak may not have disagreed, but their check book might have. Neighbors son used to work at Amtrak and now works for Brightline and he said that Amtrak had many great idea, but the accountants had to constantly say no due to trying to keep expenses down to the bare minimum. To be clear, I...

I very much enjoyed it heated, but I enjoy things warm, vs. things served at room temp or cold.

My wife and I tried these from Costco and for whatever reason I cannot explain they came out gross. They had an odd texture not like at Starbucks. I am curious how you prepared them to make them come out properly because we followed the instructions on the box. They were so bad, my wife...

Then you really would not enjoy The Tail of the Dragon 318 curves over iirc 11 miles.

No, a 2010 BMW E60 M5 with the S85 V10 engine. Though having a Dodge Viper would have been nice.

    Auto Train discussion

I thought that I would update you all with my experience on the Auto Train and manual transmission car. After having lunch at one of our favorite restaurants in Sanford, we drove over to the Auto Train station. After waiting to reach the car check-in area, the first Amtrak car employee said...

    Auto Train discussion

After taking an AMTRAK overnight train a few months back and enjoying it more than we would have ever expected, my wife and I are toying with an idea to take our car on the AutoTrain to VA and drive the Skyline Drive and generally through the Shenandoah valley over a few days in one of my sports...

Not necessarily, if you had enough dishware, cutlery, you could simply store them dirty and then send them to be cleaned once the train arrived at its terminus. This is how airlines handle dishware/cutlery, the dirty dishware and cutlery are loaded into carts and the inflight caterer takes the...

Regarding tipping, it was only because another couple left a tip that I realized that gratuity was not included. I passed a table with a $10 sitting on the table, so I walked back pulled a $10 from my wallet and handed it to the employee clearing the table.
