    Progress of Caltrain Electrification

There are already the plans for 110mph ops down the corridor and caltrain is no stranger to getting FRA wavers to put more cant then normally allowed as they already have curves with wavers you can fix Diridons throat by removing some warehouses and industrial buildings resulting in a nicer...

    Progress of Caltrain Electrification

its close to 60mi, and yes it would only save a few minutes but also the steps needed are incredibly small.

    Progress of Caltrain Electrification

Happy to see this project is coming to a close. I still find it odd they didn't want to increase top speeds to 90mph as that would help express trains more.

Container Ship strikes and collapses Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge

NEPA can be skipped or at least truncated by the president. It is unlikely the existing foundations can be reused as the damage truly done to them is going to be a mystery for a while. It would likely be quicker to start brand new foundations that are wider for an overall longer main span.

The Race to save the Surfliner Route from the Pacific.

California Coastal Commission won't allow it, they don't want hard barriers anywhere along the coast line The route is extremely slow in both Del mar and San Clemente getting the required 40ft width for 2 tracks with wires in between would mean removing large parts of the cliff side in San...

The Race to save the Surfliner Route from the Pacific.

That is not an option for a large amount of reasons. The only option is move the line inland of San Clemente and Del mar. North of LA there are some spots where we will need similar bypasses to get off the coastal bluffs.

Long Distance (LD) fleet replacement RFP discussion 2024 H1

California is not going to let them go given we paid to rebuild them and they are on a long term lease. We've got 11 coaches and 1 lounge right now. That compares to 19 coaches and 20 lounges inactive . there aren't enough surfliners and california cars to run as much service as the sate wants...

    Is Amtrak greener than flying?

I'll also note Amtrak is still mostly T0+ with the P42 but that will be T4 for most units in a few more years.

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

they are at 40 years. Most systems don't push cars past 50-60 years.

Chicago Metra Electric District (MED) speed increases?

They own very few highliners but are leasing quite a few Really though the 1980 built single level cars should be replaced. At which point go with ~30 4 car KISS sets

    Pacific Surfliner questions

    1) 20 mins before departure is normally enough. 2) not an issue there are baggage racks upstairs with even more down stairs 3) Are you trying to connect onto another train or just want to know if there is a better time?

Amtrak Performance Improvement Plan (PIP), jogging memory

Its a public report, just because its been removed from the internet doesn't mean you can't share it. Amtrak can't say anything it was on their website for years and being made by the government there is no copyright.

Dreamstar overnight train between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

They already have an initial agreement with UP we will see what track access looks like CAHSR doesn't make an overnight train worthless, plenty of routes have high speed during the day and sleepers via a conventional line at night

Dreamstar overnight train between San Francisco and Los Angeles?

The overnight bus service that amtrak CA runs is often sold out. There likely is the demand if tickets are priced right. With the move to less peak focused and more all day operations Caltrain should have space at the south side of 4th and King to allow 1 set to layover and get restocked. I...
