Ended up getting into CHI at 2:30 a.m. Took a cab to the hotel, rather than walk. Wasn't sure about downtown CHI in the middle of the night. Put a cramp in the travel plans, but I was fine. I'll let Amtrak have this one. I've ridden my bike across both Nebraska and Iowa on BRAN and RAGBRAI...

Just got off the CZ into Denver from Chicago, about 2,5 hours late. We were held up prior to Omaha by freight, which then had a mechanical failure. After the 12 hour delay of the EB CZ, 2 hours seems like a cakewalk.

We're going straight for the twelve hour badge! :)

I wouldn't recommend the daytime Nebraska or the chicken. Looking at being ten hours late into Chicago. Do I earn a special badge for this?

Engineer on the train reported back that we won't roll out of Denver before 4:30.

No. It looks like it cleared Fraser okay, so it's close to Denver. ETA of train is now 4 a.m.

Propane truck crashed near tracks and the earliest it's pulling out of Denver is midnight. Staff is refunding meals and rebooking people, if wanted.

Figure while I'm here... There is no good place for passenger drop off from Wynkoop. We got dropped at the spot reserved for the Amtrak bus and crossed the road. I imagine once construction is done it will be better. Bathrooms are in the basement, which is creepy and cool at the same time...

You were in the Boston sleeper. We were in the same boat last year on the LSL for CHI-BOS. We walked to the last car to put our stuff down and our SCA told us that we needed to go back to the dining car for the reception. On the way to Chicago, on the CZ, we had witnessed someone left behind at...

I think that sleeper restrooms stay a little nicer because you happen to know everyone sitting around you. You'll see them in the hall and then see them in the dining car. It's easier to single out who's the sloppy one, so people try harder.

I think with train travel I prefer to throw expectation to the wind and enjoy.

I am a fan of early wake-ups and breakfast. Motivating the kid for a 6AM breakfast might be another story! :)
