AGR Credit Card change (October 2022)

Previously I've gotten two companion coupons per year with my card, and the new card will give me one "round-trip" companion coupon. Is this different? I haven't had a chance to use the coupons before, so maybe they were "one-way" and I just didn't realize it.

    Fuel costs?

Planes are also pumping C02 directly into higher strata of the atmosphere, and that alone multiplies the "radiative forcing" effect (a.k.a. greenhouse effect) by 1.9–2.7. @Qapla 🤣 Yes I'm still waiting for the Chunnel to be extended a bit farther so I can take the Eurostar from NYC to Paris at...

    Fuel costs?

Great point. The author of this article does an admirable job of trying to estimate the fuel consumption of Amtrak trains in one region of the country: Savings in per-passenger CO2 emissions using rail rather than air travel in the northeastern U.S. But as he points out, we really need more...

    Fuel costs?

Thanks, that's very interesting! I wasn't aware of the Volpe (National Transportation Systems) Center. This particular article is over 30 years old, but it's a good lead nonetheless.

    Fuel costs?

I'm very interested in this question, as I've been doing some research into the climate impacts of Amtrak travel vs. air travel. Amtrak must know exactly how many gallons of diesel it takes to operate a single run of the California Zephyr, for example. Is there anyone in this forum who has...

Switching from sleeper to coach mid-ride

Priceless information, thanks! And your example really explains it. So I imagine the only way to get tickets "linked" is to talk with an agent over the phone. Sounds like I might as well just skip the website altogether and call AGR to book AND link my tickets.

Switching from sleeper to coach mid-ride

Thanks @ehbowen. I'm glad to hear it's not a big deal. I understand "book two separate tickets back-to-back, one sleeper and one coach," ― that's what I plan to do! ― but what do you mean "ask to have them linked?"

Switching from sleeper to coach mid-ride

Hi, I'm sure this question has been asked before but I wasn't able to find a thread that addressed it. I've traveled on Amtrak several times, mostly in coach, once in a roomette. For an upcoming trip on a LD route, I'd like to be in a sleeper, but the price is so gosh darned high that I'm...
