    Inside the Circus Train

Kevin Vernardos is a ringmaster for the RBB&B circus. His father Lane Vernardos (RIP) was a producer for CBS news and traveled on the circus train & took lots of video footage that he edited together and posted as several segments on Youtube as sort of a documentary/home movie about his circus...

Tell Me About the Picture in Your Avatar-----

A closeup of a lapel pin I purchased at the gift shop inside LAUPT sometime in the late '80s. I'm not sure if it is a design that has ever been officially used for the train.

    Update - Wonderful trip home!

Glad that you had a good trip! Amtrak advertises on TV from time to time. My favorite AD campaign was from a few years ago and had the slogan, "There's something about a train that's magic"

Thanks for the link to the Poughkeepsie Journal Afigg. Nice picture of Mr. Boardman with the new locomotive. This same AP article on Yahoo included NO pictures!! San Francisco Chronicle also reprinted the AP story, but also has pictures of the front and side of the ACS-64. Handsome machine...

    Joe Boardman Article

Interesting read on Smartplanet.com on 4-16-2013: "Overlooking the nerve center of Amtrak, a control room with neon lights and switchboards resembling a Shatner-era Starship Enterprise, Amtrak CEO Joe Boardman looks like a man out of time. Even in context, Boardman has little of the Teflon...

New Talgos moving westward for testing

I wrote to Oregon Dept of Transportation a couple months ago and they replied that these new trainsets will likely still operate with an F40 NPCU on the cab car end due to concerns about having to take the entire trainset out of service in the event of a grade crossing accident, so that is...

New Talgos moving westward for testing

Thanks for posting the link to this video Agent! I watched all of his other Talgo videos and my favorite is the Patrick, NV because its at speed and I can hear that very distinct sound these trainsets make going over rail joints...actually makes me miss the place I used to live that was near...

    Empire Builder hit by landslide

There was a post on T.O. about the slide caused derailment of the pre-Amtrak EB on December 27, 1959 near Carkeek Park. The post just linked to this picture, but I did a little more digging and found this post on another site that had more pics and a little more info. No fatalities and all the...

    National Train Day 2013!

I think ORHF and Friends of 4449 have their own volunteers that have a wealth of experience and have done the last inspection/rebuild and other maintenance projects. Some work was done at the Portland & Western shop in Albany, OR a few years ago, but I think it was still done by the...

Walmart semi wedged under rail overpass in Oregon

It looks like it interpreted the period I put at the end of the sentence as being part of the link, so that's why it doesn't work right. The link you provided gets people to the channel, so Thanks Trainman74!

Walmart semi wedged under rail overpass in Oregon

There is a rail overpass that crosses Gregson St. in Durham, NC with a clearance of 11' 8". There is a passenger train that uses these tracks, but I don't know which one. High clearance vehicle drivers not paying attention to the low clearance signs and mangling their rigs here is so common...
