Passport CARD Okay On Maple Leaf?

Planning a trip in July on the Maple Leaf from ALB to TWO.  I have a US passport card but not a passport book.  Is this good for both directions on the ML or do I need to get the book?  Thanks!

RIP Alan, thanks so much for introducing me to this wonderful forum and for sharing your love of trains with the world. You will be greatly missed both here and on FlyerTalk.

What states are the least/most friendly to Amtrak and passenger rail?

One could argue that the states that have absolutely zero passenger rail service of any kind - South Dakota and Wyoming - would be the least passenger rail friendly. I'm not sure how you can get any lower than zero.

    Hoosier State Consist

Here's a recent video of the HS that shows two horizon coaches and a horizon cafe car:

    St. Joseph, MI station

I don't have any first-hand experience, but one suggestion might be to call the hotel and see if they are aware of any options of what you might be able to do. I do see what you mean, there are quite a lot of stairs right by the station there.

Ga. Crossing arm keeps truck from moving -- Hit by train

I'm not positive, but I believe the truck got stuck on the tracks because of the "hump", I don't believe it was the fault of the crossing arm. Note the sign at about the 0:10 mark that says "No Trucks".

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

That's what I'm thinking happened, they probably just asked everyone to stay on the train and sleep there. I can't imagine they either put everyone in a hotel or provided them all with rental cars. I would love to know how much and what kind of compensation was offered to the passengers, some...

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

First picture of the scene I've seen - http://www.witn.com/content/news/Amtrak-Auto-Train-derails-north-of-Rocky-Mount-478290813.html Not sure how fast the train may have been going, but if the cars stayed upright, MAYBE there's not a huge amount of damage to the vehicles inside the cars...

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

It appears 98 is moving well northbound and has cleared the derailment site, 52 is approaching the site as we speak. 92 will be coming through the area shortly. 97 is not moving yet, but my guess is that it will be once 92 comes through.

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

Is it possible the passengers of 97 were bussed? I saw it was stopped adjacent to highway 301 in Pleasant Hill, NC for quite a while before continuing south toward the derailment site. I'm not sure if it would still be showing on the map if the passengers got off the train. Edit to add: The...

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

Okay, so either the autoracks are still sitting there and completely blocking the tracks or there is track damage north of RMT. Whichever it is, a lot of people are in for a very long day. So right now, 53 is what, about 5 hours or so into the 19 hour trip? So they won't be getting to Sanford...

Auto Train Derailment - Auto Racks (3/29)

Yeah, it's a rough night/morning in the southeast (copied from my own Facebook post): 98(28) and 52(28) at this moment are both stopped just North of Rocky Mount, 53(28) is moving just South of Rocky Mount but was stopped for a while, 97(28) is stopped near Skippers, Virginia (near VA/NC...

Boston Considers Downeaster Link To South Station, East Coast Corridor

You cannot travel WOB-BON or BON-WOB on the Downeaster, WOB is discharge only southbound and receive only northbound. You are correct about Haverhill though, you could take either the Downeaster or the purple line to get there.

Given the Perfect Scenario, Could A Train Go BOS-NYP-WAS Non-Stop?

This is very much "pie in the sky" thinking, but could an NEC train go from Boston to Washington, only stopping at NYP? Yes, this would be given the right amount of equipment, perhaps a dedicated track, and enough ridership. But I'm wondering if it would be feasible and beneficial for one...
