    Amtrak Web site

Firefox is what I normally use... I also tried Opera today, and while it didn't lock up it certainly had issues when I tried to click on things on the home page. But as soon as I moved off to another page on the site, no problems. I have a Mac... so your mileage may vary.

    Amtrak Web site

I've had problems with the Amtrak site too... seems the page locks up. The rest of the computer is fine, so are the other web pages I have open. Only seems to happen if you have reservations pages open (including the home page).

"Rail Security Drill Involves 150 Amtrak Stations"

Regarding the M4s... they could be 3 round burst (M4A2) or full auto (M4A1). In close quarters, they are actually quite effective. If they are smart and have some optics on the top rail, a skilled rifleman can take out a single person in a crowd without harming others. Considering that they...

What does your Forum User Name mean?

I am a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy, assigned to a Marine Corps ground combat unit. The Marines, back in WWI, were assaulting the Belleau Woods in France. During the attack, legend has it that the Germans sent a cable back to Berlin that the Marines were fighting so intensely that it was...

    San Diego Questions

As far as the Ferry, it runs from 9 AM until 9 PM leaving every half hour (I think, if not every half, it's every hour) each day. On the San Diego side, it docks at the Broadway Pier, which is about 2 blocks from the Downtown station that has Surfliner Service, as well as the Trolley station to...

    Pacific Surfliner day trip

It all depends on what you would like to do while you are there... any particular interests? Balboa Park is full of museums and cultural centers. Downtown has all the fine dining and nightlife. There are 2 California missions there to look at, and Old Town is mostly a state park nowadays to...

Amtrak Newbie - Surfliner to CS

Thanks guys for all the input. I still have one small question about the luggage... does anyone know if the surfliner has a luggage rack on it for larger gear... all I can see online is the overhead bins in Business Class (which is what I booked). Other than that, tickets are purchased...

    Good Morning America

It looks very similar to the systems we have on all of our Navy ships... two antennas that could be on the same bird, or on different ones for redundancy. The satellite dishes are mounted onto a mount that can move quickly in both azimuth and elevation. The mounts are controlled by a computer...

Amtrak Newbie - Surfliner to CS

Great! I am going to go ahead and book these tickets tonight! To be honest, I would have booked them anyway... this is a trip we have been talking about for a while. Like I said in my first post, I hope this goes well, as I am hoping to dump the airport for this kind of travel! There is a...

Amtrak Newbie - Surfliner to CS

Hello everybody! I am currently on deployment to Iraq, but headed home soon and am thinking of taking a trip on the CS from San Diego to Albany, OR to see family. I have never ridden on Amtrak before, so this will be a first for me. But the thought of fighting to get through another plane...

    Pacific Surfliner day trip

I can't speak to Santa Barbara, but I live in San Diego and can tell you the Santa Fe station is right downtown. In walking distance is the bay, cruise ship terminal, the maritime museum (with the Star Of India, USS Midway, etc.), and slightly longer walk gets you to the "Gaslamp", the section...
